‘Deeeer Simulator’ has just hit Steam Early Access, leaving thousands of gamers scratching their heads and asking themselves, “what the f…?”
Goat Simulator is part Grand Theft Auto-style open-world adventure with a bit of Spider-Man thrown in. It follows two other slightly “out-there” game concepts, including Goat Simulator and Untitled Goose Game.
The Japanese-made game made more than US$70,000 to make the game by crowdsourcing the campaign (they asked for just under US$10,000 to start with).
The game’s protagonist – a hench deer – can walk on four legs, speed-walk like humans do on two feet, or use its neck to swing from buildings.
The city is a large blocky sandbox, and the objective is to cause as much chaos as possible – earning you a Deersaster rating.
Like GTA, doing anything out of the ordinary will attract the eye of the police – which in this case take the form of sheep wearing policeman hats, or a bear wearing a squad car on its back.
Unlike regular forest deer, the main character can swap out his horns for head-mountable weaponry and rideable animals.
This follows a long line of games which have taken the ‘silly’ to imaginative new heights. Goat Simulator, produced by Coffee Stain Studios, generated more than US$$12 million from their idiosyncratic animal sandbox – prompting a US$35 million takeover bid from a large Swedish publisher.
